Beginners Dutch Course Outline
This Open-Group Beginner Dutch Course will get you started with the language in the most engaging way! You will share the classes with students from all over the world who have your same interest for learning Dutch and are at your same level of proficiency. Your native instructor will start teaching you all you need to know to get by in a Dutch-speaking environment, like greetings and numbers. Then, as the course progresses, you will start delving into more complex topics with the help of your tutor. In this way, you will be able to communicate in real-life situations, like ordering food at a café and talking to members of your family. Boost your Dutch proficiency in a multicultural setting and take your language skills to a whole new level!
Lesson 1
You will learn how to introduce yourself by saying your name, and where you are from; to ask the questions what’s your name?, and where are you from?; nationalities, countries and cities; personal pronouns
Lesson 2
You will learn how to ask for someone’s address and telephone number and give yours; numbers 0-10; the verb to be; to use the question words where and what
Lesson 3
You will learn vocabulary related to family members; to form negative sentences; the personal pronouns; to use the verbs to live, and to come; to talk about your family
Lesson 4
You will learn to ask about someone’s age and say yours; to talk about locations; the plural of nouns; to use the demonstrative pronouns this and that
Lesson 5
You will learn to make comparisons; terms for more family members and their marital status; to conjugate the verb to have; to talk about your relatives
Lesson 6
You will learn to talk about your daily routine; more numbers; to say what time it is and talk about times of the day; to use the verbs to get up, to start, to do, to study, and to eat
Lesson 7
You will learn to talk about other daily activities; vocabulary related to days, months, years, and seasons; to talk about the weather; to use prepositions
Lesson 8
You will learn vocabulary related to food and drinks; to talk about the different meals of the day; to describe your food; to conjugate the verb to take
Lesson 9
You will learn to order food and drinks at a café; to justify a decision; to ask and answer questions; the verb to talk
Lesson 10
You will learn to ask for and give directions; vocabulary related to means of transportation; to conjugate the verbs to walk, to wait, to get off, and to leave; to talk about locations

Your teacher will share their materials (excerpts from textbooks, audio files, videos, etc.) with you during the classes using screenshare. Michel is one of our most capable and experienced Dutch teachers. With over 20 years of experience, he has taught innumerable students of all backgrounds and levels. Languages are his passion. Besides Dutch, Michel feels a special affection for the Portuguese language, which has led him to travel to Brazil and Portugal several times over the past decades. Now, he is living in Brazil, where he loves to mingle with the locals to learn more about their culture. This helps Michel give his classes a multicultural twist, which his students always enjoy. With him, you can expect plenty of communicative activities where you will learn about other traditions and beliefs at the same time as you boost your Dutch fluency. Michel will be a great match for anyone looking for an experienced and passionate Dutch teacher!
