Adelaide, the state capital of South Australia, is a multicultural city with a population of about 1.3 million people. According to the 2016 census, more than 50 languages are spoken in the city and one of the most popular foreign languages spoken in Australia is French: over 150,000 French speakers live in Australia and 20% of them have made Adelaide their home. Naturally, then, the language is an important part of the city’s culture, society and work environment. So, start learning French with Language Trainers to broaden your professional horizons, enjoy cultural events and meet like-minded language lovers around the city. Contact us today and we will design a course for you that adapts to your requirements and schedule.

Why Study French in Adelaide

For Social: If you are looking to make new French-speaking friends, you should join the Adelaide University French Club, a social and cultural club that welcomes young people with an interest in practising their French, regardless of their language skills. They organise a wide selection of events throughout the year, including croissant picnics at the beginning of each semester, weekly conversation groups, a pub crawl, film nights, cheese nights and even a wine tour. Don’t waste this wonderful opportunity to put to use what you learn with us at Language Trainers! Another option is to join the DuoLingo French Meetup, a language exchange group that encourages members to practise speaking French in small groups which are arranged according to each person’s proficiency. The first 30 minutes are to meet and greet and order food and drinks, with the subsequent hour reserved for conversing in French in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

For Culture & Tourism: But you do not have to limit your French use to meetings with other speakers. You can also deepen your knowledge of French culture and practise your language skills around Adelaide. For example, if you are interested in theatre, you will be pleased to know the French Club presents an annual play (delivered entirely in French!) every September. In 2019, for example, the club performed the famous Les Miserables. Take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy excellent theatre while improving your French listening skills! But if you want to learn French to travel abroad, you can also get in touch with us. We can prepare a personalised programme so you

For Work: And once you have reached an intermediate level of French or beyond, you can start to take advantage of the many professional opportunities in the city. Some local companies, like Horizon One or Skycity Entertainment, are always looking for bilingual employees who can help them expand their business into French-speaking markets. Alternatively, if you own your own business and would like to establish it in France, you should get in touch with the French-Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Adelaide Chapter). Founded in 1899, this institution has been promoting business between French and Australian companies through information distribution, hosting networking events and offering business support services. Attend their events and build up friendly business relations with French entrepreneurs by using your new language skills!
